About SFL
Established in 1907, the same year when the Department of German at Tongji German Medical School was founded, the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) has enjoyed a history of more than a century.
To attract talents, strengthen research, and better serve the society, the SFL, backed by Tongji's long-term employment and dual-channel promotion system, has improved the structure of talent work and seen rapid growth of high-level and young talents.
Mission
With the intent of building an academic center for systematic and distinctive education, the School features multi-year endeavors in five research topics:

Theory and Innovation of Multilingual Translation of Typical Chinese Terms and Expressions |
Area Studies in German and European Languages |
Research on Language Cognition and Rehabilitation for Special Groups |
Innovative Interpretation and Criticism of Foreign Literary Classics |
In an effort to better address fundamental questions of national significance, the SFL is committed to shaping values, integrating teaching and research as well as innovating ideas, and is well positioned to the reform and development of foreign languages in the new era.
In addition, the School is dedicated to providing its students with an education that combines personal development, project-driven teaching and international collaboration, seeking to develop in each member of the SFL the ability and passion to work wisely, creatively, and effectively for the betterment of humankind.

Resources
At present, the SFL offers doctoral degree programs and post-doctoral research stations in the first-level discipline, and has formed a sound talent cultivation system that provides undergraduate and graduate programs with professional and academic degrees. The School’s teaching and research covers five fields with a particular focus on problem-orientation and cross-innovation, and keeps abreast with the times while adhering to the truth.
Faculty
SFL currently has 160 permanent members of academic staff, including 26 professors, 17 doctoral supervisors, one Yangtze River Scholar by the Ministry of Education (MOE), 15 with titles like New Century Excellent Talents, Sunrise Scholars, Pujiang Talents, Morning Glory Talent and Humboldt Research Fellowship by the MOE, and 12 others working in leading academic institutions around the world.
